This is the head temple of the Shingon Buddhism which has about 3,600 branch temples all over Japan. Although the origin was Seigan-ji Temple built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi for his deceased mother, the name was changed as Kongobu-ji Temple in 1869. The gorgeous Fusuma paintings of Kano school painters are kept inside "Daishu-den", which is a prefectural important cultural property.
